Rick Guerra, P.E., F.NSPE

With an engineering career spanning more than four decades, Rick Guerra brought a deep understanding of engineering design, construction, and the demands of running a successful consulting engineering firm. Since joining Guerra Engineering in 1994, he played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s culture, growth, and reputation for technical excellence. A recognized leader in the engineering community, Rick has been deeply involved in advancing the profession. In July 2021, he was installed as President of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) for the 2021–2022 term. He is also a past president of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers and served as a member of both the Texas Engineering Foundation Board of Trustees and the TSPE Political Action Committee for Engineers Board of Trustees. His nearly 30 years of volunteer leadership at the state and national levels reflect his commitment to elevating the engineering profession. Rick recently retired from his role as Chief Executive Officer, and his legacy continues to guide the firm’s commitment to integrity, innovation, and service.

Founder
Jose I. Guerra earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Architectural Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin in 1957 and led a distinguished engineering career spanning more than five decades. He founded Guerra Engineering in 1973 and served as President and CEO until 2009. Today, he continues to support the firm as Chair Emeritus. Mr. Guerra is a recognized leader in both the engineering and civic communities. He is a past President of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers, former Chairman of the Texas Board of Professional Engineers, and currently serves on the AAES International Activities Committee for UPADI. He has also held leadership roles with the Boy Scouts of America, St. David’s HealthCare System, and the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. His many honors include the Distinguished Graduate Award from UT Austin’s Cockrell School of Engineering, the NSPE Award from the National Society of Professional Engineers, and membership in the Pan American Academy of Engineers.
