Our Story: A Legacy of Engineering with Purpose

Jose I. Guerra, Inc. was founded in 1973 by Jose I. Guerra, P.E., a proud graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, driven by a passion for structural engineering and a vision to help shape a stronger Austin. At a time of significant growth for the city, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish his own firm; one of the earliest in the state, proudly holding registration F-3 with the Texas Board of Professional Engineers & Land Surveyors.

Represented by its iconic “G,” the firm quickly became recognized for more than just sound engineering. Guerra built a reputation for technical excellence, dependable service, and innovative problem-solving core values that continue to guide our work today.

What began as a small, local practice has evolved into a respected, multi-discipline engineering firm serving clients across Texas. While the industry and our capabilities have grown over the decades, our commitment to integrity, innovation, and community remains unwavering.

In 2023, Jose I. Guerra, Inc. proudly celebrated its 50-year milestone, honoring a legacy of excellence and long-standing client relationships. Building on this strong foundation, the firm entered a new chapter of leadership in May 2025, when Rick Guerra retired as CEO. Debra Sharpe was appointed Chief Executive Officer and Shawn Allen continued his role as President and Chief Operating Officer. As part of this transition, the new leadership team rebranded the company from Jose I. Guerra, Inc. to Guerra Engineering, reflecting both its legacy and its forward-looking vision. Today, Guerra Engineering remains dedicated to delivering high-quality, innovative engineering solutions while continuing to serve and strengthen the communities we call home.
