Austin FC (Soccer) Q2 Stadium – Austin, Texas
The new 20,500-seat MLS Stadium was specifically built for the Austin Football Club (Austin FC). The facility is state-of-the art and designed to incorporate a level of spectator, player, media and operator amenities that bring a new and unique opportunity to Austin. The stadium was designed to incorporate a number of uses and amenities that will be active during non-game times including a retail team store and private team offices. Premium spaces were designed to be used as patron amenities for sporting events and concerts but also to be multifunctional spaces for meetings, conferences, hospitality events and gatherings. An important goal for the project was for the building to be active on non-match days throughout the year.
Our Fire Protection Engineering Team provided design and construction administration services for the fire-alarm and fire-suppression systems throughout the stadium. These included wet, dry, and pre-action fire-sprinkler systems, a fire-standpipe system, and emergency notification with voice and visual notification. In addition to designing the systems to meet local building codes as well as the more demanding requirements of Factory Mutual, challenges included integration of the fire-alarm system with the notification systems in the bowl and spectator seating areas, and finding ways to integrate all the various buildings so that the systems operate throughout all of them as they would in a single facility.
