Gus Garcia Middle School Austin, Texas
The Gus Garcia Middle School project exemplifies a school designed for sustainability. The new 160,400 square foot facility is sited so that classroom spaces take advantage of abundant north and south views and natural light. Systems were designed to exceed energy code requirements, and potable water demands were significantly reduced. In addition, Austin ISD has agreed to use green power for 30% of the school’s energy needs for the next ten years of operation. Limited impervious cover on site and existing vegetation maintained further contributed to the school’s coveted 3-star rating from the Austin Green Building Program.
