South Austin Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant – Thickener Improvements Project – Austin, Texas

Owner: City of Austin
Contact Person: CDM Smith | Danny Hurtado
Date Completed: Design Complete April 2016 | substantial completion March 2019
Construction Cost: $7,200,000
Project Description:

Our thorough understanding of the existing structural system was instrumental in the design of the improvement structures, as the existing conditions often created challenges to the structural design. Structural work included a new structural roof slab using existing CMU walls, a new rectangular inlet structures attached to the cylindrical thickener structure, and new concrete and aluminum steps/stairs.

As most of the improvement structures were designed to be attached to existing structures, meticulous consideration was given to the construction sequence and coordination with the temporary closing schedule of the thickeners. During construction, Jose I. Guerra, Inc. provided timely response to contractor’s questions and submittals, and assisted the Owner and contractor in resolving all urgent construction issues due to unforeseen site conditions.
